State of the Random Nerdness Union

Hey there fellow blog reader and/or podcast listener this is Chris Lockhart with a quick 'state of the union' address for Random Nerdness.

Blogging:
Have been getting behind on the blog. It's been real busy with the podcast and holiday season and work to blog on a regular basis. But the blogs are going to continue, better late than never.

Random Nerdness Podcast:

The Random Nerdness Podcast has been behind schedule lately. My sound engineer and awesome brother-in-law Sebastian went back to Sweden for the holiday season, so we had to take a 3 week break. Seb is not only the 'Sound Engineer', he really is our Podcast Producer too. The reason why the show sounds as good as it does is because of Seb. And he has been real busy with work and family life too. As much as I would like RN to be a weekly podcast it probably will not be at this point. It will probably be released 3 times a month, almost weekly but not. In the coming months I'm hoping Seb will be able to teach me some engineering and production stuff so I can assist in the actual production of the show and take some of the work load from Seb. But the podcast is still being made and look for it at www.randomnerdness.podbean.com and on iTunes.

Episode 14 will be our 'He-Man' episode and I am especially excited for that episode release.

I am also working on a 3rd 'Captains Table' interview episode of RN. Look for that soon!

Geek Fallout Podcast:

I continue my work with GF. That podcast is weekly so be sure to check it out at podbean and on iTunes!

Big thank you to my GF Co-Hosts Richard and Jeff: They have been great with recording on my schedule. Recording the weeks I work is almost impossible, so we have been recording around my work weeks. Thanks guys for helping me to continue to be on the show on a regular basis.

“State of the Site” Random Nerdness

This weeks assignment from the League Of Extraordinary Bloggers is pretty straight forward: Write a “State of the Site” for your web site. How’s it going? What exciting things have happened this past year? Where do you want your site to be in a year’s time?

So I actually started blogging on Facebook back in May 2009. Fall 2011 I decided to branch out and do my blog elsewhere in the hopes of getting more people reading my random thoughts on life, pop culture, Star Trek, comic books, etc. So I found 'Blogspot' and started blogging there under the 'Random Nerdness' banner. I really enjoyed building my own blog site so much so I created a second soon after called 'Trek1701', a Star Trek blog. Then I got hit with blogging fever and I started a 3rd blog called 'The Cola Dog', which was a comic book and animation blog. I shutdown 'The Cola Dog' at the end of May 2012, just because I couldn't keep up with a weekly blog schedule for all 3 blogs. But Random Nerdness has been a lot of fun. In March 2012 I made my podcasting debut as a '4th Chair' guest on the 'Nerd Lunch' podcast. That was a great experience for me. The Nerd Lunch crew (CT, Jeeg and Pax) were great and wonderful to work with and I had a blast on Episode 28 discussing Star Trek. But doing that podcast inspired me to branch out the Random Nerdness blog into its own podcast...

In September I teamed up with my brother-in-law Sebastian, who is actually a sound engineer, in doing a podcast based on Random Nerdness. So far we have done 2 test pilots, and recorded 5 episodes which I am hoping will be streaming soon at 'Podbean.com' and available on iTunes. Like the blog we on the podcast discuss randomly nerdy things. So far my guest list on the podcast includes my sister Brianna, best friend Tyler, step-sister Meghan, and cousin Curtis. Future episodes will feature other friends and family and hopefully some distant friends and bloggers on the Skype. So stay tuned for that.

In August I joined 'The League Of Extraordinary Bloggers'. In the posts I have done for the league I have had a great time. The league definitely has helped in gaining exposure for my blog. I don't do every assignment every week, but I do try.

What does the future hold? With doing a podcast my blogs may not get all the attention they once did. But I will still be blogging, but most of my free time will be spent on getting the podcast moving forward. I'm hoping to have streaming for the podcast on the blogs. Stay tuned for future announcements.

Check It Out: Announcement!

Announcement:

Normally I do a monthly segment called 'Beer Goggles' for the blog, but that is going to stop. Why you ask? Well that's a good question, you see for the last couple months I have had a project in the planning stages, and well hopefully next month said project will be done. That project that is in the works is one that I hope will be well worth the wait, and that project will have a segment on it called 'Beer Goggles'. Well that project is: The Random Nerdness Podcast! Yes a real life podcast which will hopefully be out in September, maybe October. It will (hopefully) be free to download on iTunes. It has not been recorded yet, and I don't want to get too far ahead of myself if it doesn't work out, but I am hoping to launch a twice monthly podcastbased on this blog. My brother-in-law Sebastian will be my trusted sound engineer and co-host along with my little sister Brianna. We're hoping to have a rotating '4th' chair co-host filled with friends in studio or ones skyped in. I'm really hoping it works out, more announcements to come in the future.

Check it out: I finally just watched the movie 50/50: The film about a cancer patient (Joseph Gordon Levitt) and how he and his friends and family deal with the cancer he has. Well I must say that this movie was fantastic! It literally made me laugh and cry in and hour and fifty minutes. JGL is an amazing actor, he was fantastic in 'The Dark Knight Rises' which is why I finally decided to watch 50/50, and I am so glad I did. He truly was inspiring in this film, well worth the viewing.

Check it out: Been watching 'The Nerdist' TV series based on the podcast. Chris Hardwick and company are freakin hilarious. If you are into geek/nerdy culture check this talk show out. It's on once a week in Canada Wednesday nights on the SPACE Channel. Also check out 'The Nerdist' channel on YouTube, he does a show called 'Celebrity Bowling' which is also freakin awesome.

Check it out: Be sure to listen to 'The Atomic Geeks Podcast', the 'Nerd Lunch Podcast' and 'The Classic Film Jerks', all are great podcasts worth your listenin and are all a part of the 'Atomic Geeks Podcast Network'. They are also free to download from iTunes. And be sure to leave them an iTunes review.

The End To 'The Cola Dog'

'The Cola Dog' blog has come to an end. It's not that I haven't enjoyed working on the blog, but it just hasn't been getting the views to warrant getting the weekly attention it has been getting from me. And really maintaining 3 weekly blogs while holding a full time job (and having worked over 300 overtime hours so far in 2012) is just a bit much, so I decided to let go of 'The Cola Dog'. But you need not worry I still intend to write blogs about comic books and animation from time to time, and those blogs can be found on my 'Random Nerdness' blog. So if this is your first time checking out 'The Cola Dog' blog be sure to check out my otherblogs:

www.randomnerdness.blogspot.com
(A blog about anything and everything, especially stuff in the Sci-fi/fantasy/comic books/television/movie/beer/books realm)

And

www.trek1701.blogspot.com
(A blog devoted to the world of Star Trek)

I have something else I intend to branch into, another form of multi-media, but I cannot say anything at this time. Look for an announcement this summer or fall (hopefully). Anywho if you are a reader of 'The Cola Dog' or have checked it out in the past allow me to say "Thank you". It has been a fun experience. See you on the other blogs!

Looking For Some Co-Writers

Looking for contributing Writers to join me in writing for the Random Nerdness blog. It doesn't necessarily need to be stuff 'geeky' or 'nerdy', just stuff you and others would find interesting. I'm hoping to be getting more exposure for the blog in the next few months so this is the time to get your stuff read. Interested? Send me a message and we'll set up something.

For those interested Thank You!

Not sure why I added a 70's pic of Leonard Nimoy, but I did.  He just made a great guest appearance on the season finale of 'Fringe', and my guess is he will be back again in the 5th and final season as 'William Bell'.
