We all know someone who has said the
following:
“Sorry
I acted that way but I’m depressed...”
“I
don’t have to apologize; I suffer from depression you know...”
“My
mental illness is my free pass to act like a maniac...”
As someone who has had depression in the past I do not agree with those statements. Too often people use their depression/mental illness as an excuse for crummy behaviour and it is not a valid excuse. I am a firm believer in:
‘Treat people the way you want to be
treated’
AND
‘If
you dish it out you have to be able to take it’.
Enough with excuses own up to your behaviour.
