The mowing of ditches along highway 33
June 27/22
To: Glenn van Dijken, MLA Athabasca-Barrhead-Westlock
From: Chris Lockhart, Resident of Barrhead and employed in Swan Hills
Regards: The mowing of ditches along highway 33
Dear Mr. Dijken
I was wondering if you were aware of the state of the ditches along Highway 33, specifically between Horse Creek Road and Trapper Lee’s Cabin. It has been at least 5 years since this area of highway ditches has been mowed, and as a result trees and bushes are starting to grow and thrive in the ditches along the highway. As you probably already know this is an area with a large number of animal/vehicle collisions, there is even high collision signs posted. As these ditches get overgrown with trees and shrubs it is becoming increasingly difficult to spot wild life such as deer and bears as they blend in with them. It can also be difficult to spot a moose if it is sitting amongst the trees/shrubs.
I am wondering why these ditches are not being mowed on a more regular basis? Even every second year a mow would be beneficial; the lack of ditch mowing has created a safety hazard and there will be more collisions with wild life if not addressed, hopefully not resulting in a fatality.
I am not sure who handles the ditch mowing contracts but high collision highways like highway 33 from Fort Assiniboine to Swan Hills needs more attention.
Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated and I await your response.
Your constituent,
Chris Lockhart

This & That
I’ve been working on designing the perfect profile picture for my social medias:
This picture represents my love for my 3 favourite franchises: Star Trek, Star Wars and comic books. My two favourite sport franchises: Toronto Blue Jays and Edmonton Oilers. The Oilers special logo also doubles to show off my native heritage. And finally four ribbons that represent causes close to me: mental health and depression, heart/stroke & diabetes.

Wanna smoke?
Its crazy now to imagine people smoking cigarettes in a restaurant. In Alberta I think it was around 2008 when restaurants were no longer allowed to allow cigarette smoking to take place in their establishments.
When we went to Las Vegas in 2014 we found it took some time to adjust to being around indoor cigarette smoke in the casinos.
As a non smoker I enjoy our smoke-less society, hard to believe it wasn’t that long ago it was not like this.
40 years!!!
It’s hard to believe ET is now a 40 year old movie. I vaguely remember my folks taking me to see it at the old Barrhead drive-in.
This & That:
I’ve always had a love for science fiction, and ET is a big part of that.

The Sweep 🧹
And the Oilers season ends in Game 4 in OT, 6-5. The Colorado Avalanche will move on to the Stanley Cup Final.
At least the Oilers knocked out the Flames
Game 4 of the Third Round: win or die
Well it’s do or die time for the Edmonton Oilers. Hopefully the Avs don’t make a sweep of the series.
