Yesterday all I heard from friends and family was how boring the Oscar’s are and they would not be watching. Today: social media is bursting at the seams talking about the Oscars. Not so much about the winners (congrats Dune on all the wins) or losers (Dune should have been best picture) but about Will Smith slapping Chris Rock over a lame ‘GI Jane’ joke. A joke that Will Smith himself was initially laughing at!
But I guess given Jada’s reaction he had to step up and defend her honour…but why? She is not the first actress to be made fun of at an awards show, it comes with the territory. And what Chris Rock said was by far more tame when compared to other comedians at awards shows like Ricky Gervais.
All I know is if my company had an awards night and I got on stage and hit a presenter because he made a ‘GI Jane’ joke directed at my wife I’m pretty sure I’d be arrested/charged for assault, to say nothing about being possibly fired for my actions. But I guess Hollywood is above the law.
But given what Jada has been putting her husband through these last few years I’m thinking his rage finally boiled over and unfortunately Chris Rock was in his way. If you don’t know what I’m talking about Google ‘Will Smith Cuckold’…
