Best Wishes for Peter David!!

New York Times Best Selling Author and Comic Book Writing Legend, Peter David, recently posted on his website that he has suffered a stroke while vacationing with family in Florida, further details to come as they become clarified.

I Huge fan of Peters work, from his 'Star Trek' novels to his unbeatable run on the 'Incredible Hulk'. I am currently reading his work on 'X-Factor' and I purchased some new fantasy novels from him earlier this year which I am looking forward to reading. My son and & I had a chance to meet him this past April in Calgary at the Comic Expo. He was gracious, answered all my questions I had for him and autographed the books I wanted him to. It was a great experience and he truly is my favourite writer and someone I look to for inspiration as I too dream of becoming a writer of comic books. Get well soon Peter, you truly are a wonderful human being!

My dream ‘Justice League’ teams!!

I recently wrote an article on the blog about my dream ‘Avengers’ teams, from Marvel Comics. Now it’s DC’s turn with my dream 2 ‘Justice League’ teams- Justice League America & Justice League Europe. I always liked the concept of the JLE, which is why I chose them to be my other team.
JLA (Working out of the ‘Hall Of Justice’ located in Washington DC)
-         Martian Manhunter: Leader of team. He is literally there all the time, his life is devoted to the League.
-         Green Lantern (Hal Jordan):  Every team needs a GL! And Hal is best on JLA
-         Elasti (Girl): old DCU ‘Doom Patrol’ member. Her powers are a combination of Plastic Man & the Atom.
-         Guardian: Golden age hero from Metropolis. A cool combo of both Batman and Captain America for the DCU.
-         Negative Man: another old DCU ‘Doom Patrol’ member. His powers are both interesting and tragic. He could be a great member or future enemy?
-         Metamorpho: Always liked this guy. Cool morphing powers.
-         Wonder Woman: She is busy but will assist often. She brings the power.

Reserve:
Superman
-         Superman: This guy is busy with protecting his city and secret identity. He will assist when necessary.

Justice League: Europe (Protectors of Europe and the other side of the planet. Operates out of the ‘Justice League Tower’ located in London England)
-         Steel: Leader and tech guy of team. The old DCU version would be used, not the new Grant Morrison interpretation. Friend to Superman.
-         Shazam (Captain Marvel): The magical power house of the team.
-         Robotman (Cliff Steele): Old ‘Doom Patrol’ member. He would be a tech guy but strength too.
-         Power Girl: She brings power and money to help out the team.
-         Aquaman: Still wants to assist humanity against evil, but insists on not being on ‘Superman’ or ‘Wonder Womans’ team.
-         Green Lantern (Guy Gardner): Wisecracking and funny, also serious. And this team needs a GL too!
-         Hawkgirl: this winged warrior would be the loose cannon on the team.

Reserve:
-         Flash: Although located out of the USA, his speed allows him to assist the JLE.

My 'Avengers' (Uncanny & West Coast)

With the new 'Marvel Now' Avengers teams being revealed I decided to build my own dream teams of 'Avengers'. I am designing 2 seperate teams for this franchise and I'll give my reasons.

Uncanny Avengers (New York):

- Captain America: Leader of team.
- Beast: Tech guy, back-up leader
- Machine Man: Also tech guy and robot
- Black Widow: Spy/intelligence specialist
- Thor: Alien/God and the powerhouse of the team
- Ice Man: New guy, former X-Man. Training close with Captain America and Beast. Potential side-kick for Cap?
- Captain Marvel (Ms): Also a cosmic powerhouse for team
- Falcon: Close friend to Cap.

Reserve Members for Avengers (New York):
- Spider-man
- Wolverine
- Daredevil
(Spider-man and Wolverine already get a lot of exposure outside of the Avengers and in my opinion really not needed to be on the team full-time. Just to lend a hand when needed. Daredevil is best served on the team in small doses in my opinion)

- Red Hulk: General Ross has a lot of respect for Cap and obeys his commands when given.

West Coast Avengers (LA): I also loved the concept of having a separate team on the west coast. Why have 2 teams based in New York?

- (Green) She-Hulk: Leader of this team. She is both smart and strong and well respected in the super hero community.
- Iron Man: Tech expert. Tony Stark
- Moon Knight: some what crazy but comes through when needed. Hollywood producer by day.
- Spider-Woman: Gorgeous girl with the powers of Spider-man.
- Wonder Man: Powerhouse. Also a re-established movie stunt man when not being a hero.
- Vision: Also a tech expert, android and can be a powerhouse.
- Luke Cage (Power Man): Powerhouse. Relocates to LA when his wife Jessica Jones moves her 'Alias Private Investigations' business to LA.
- Astra: Former Imperial Guard. Banished and Stranded on Earth, her powers are similar to 'Kitty Pryde'. She is recruited by Tony Stark.

Reserve Members of West Coast Avengers (LA):

- Hulk: Bruce Banner and Tony Stark work together from time to time. Also he is She-Hulks cousin.
- Scarlett Witch: She sometimes shows up to help, also because of her former relationships with Vision and Wonder Man.
- Power Woman: Jessica Jones, wife of Luke Cage sometimes assists.
- Namor: Sometimes helps out when asked.

I would love a chance to tackle these characters. I really believe the Avengers should be limited to 2 monthly titles, one team based in NYC and one in LA. But I do have faith in Rick Remender and Jonathan Hickman will do a good job with the Uncanny Avengers, Avengers and New Avengers.

Next Time I do this it will be on the Justice League. Again 2 teams: JLA & Justice League: Europe

This Weeks Assignment From The League Of Extraordinary Bloggers:

We’re probably all planning on some sort of holiday-themed post, so let’s tie one on together and make it a weekly League topic!  This week’s challenge for the League of Extraordinary Bloggers is…
Merry Geekmas! Write or photograph something festive and pop culture oriented.

Well as you may know this blog has spun into it's own podcast called 'The Random Nerdness Podcast'. And coming the week of Christmas on Episode 10  we are starting our first annual 'Chris Lockhart Christmas Special' (why the Chris Lockhart special?... I just wanted my name in the title). It's going to be a fun filled episode where we are having a number of guests joining us and we will be discussing Christmas stuff. And we will even have some special guests joining in on the festive fun from some of the other podcasts on 'The Atomic Geeks Podcast Network'. It will be a great listen, slated to be released the week of Christmas. It will be a slightly longer episode of RN, and as such it will be followed by  2 weeks off for the Christmas season, returning with Episode 11 early in January 2013.

As always this will be an explicit episode, so do not listen to it in front of the kiddies. Especially the first segment... I share a bad Christmas memory involving a teacher from my school and many curse words were used in explaining the story...tis the season for explicit podcast episodes....

You can stream the podcast at: www.randomnerdness.podbean.com
or download free from iTunes!! (streaming is free too as always)

The Random Nerdness Podcast is a proud member of The Atomic Geeks Podcast Network.

Check out these other league blogs for more Christmas festive goodness!:

007 Skyfall Mini-Review (With SPOILERS!!)

Be warned there is SPOILERS involved in this mini-review. If you have seen the film or don't care about being spoiled on key plot points keep on reading. If you don't want to be spoiled wait, watch the film then come back and read this blog post.

The newest Daniel Craig/James Bond film has finally landed in my home town of Barrhead and I went to see it. I must say it was a great film, definitely the best thus far from Craig. It literally has everything needed to make a great Bond film: action, special effects, cool cars, hot women, awesome villain and great story. Judi Dench was great as 'M', I really like the new 'Q', Craig is back and better than ever.  Javier Bardem make for an excellent bad guy.

I would give 'Skyfall' a rating of 4.5 out of 5

Pro's & Cons of 'Skyfall':

Pro:
- Love the addition of Ralph Fiennes as the new 'M'. Great casting choice!!!

- Love how they seem to be going back to the roots of Bond. The old leather/book shelf office for 'M' and Ms Moneypenny returning, and as it turns out has field agent experience...very awesome.

- Good to see 'Q' back, and to see a younger more serious/smart 'Q' is very cool. An older/goofy 'Q' just wouldn't work for the Craig Bond.

- Great send off for Dame Judi Dench. And I must say for a 77 year old woman she was looking very beautiful and is in my mind this films 'Bond Girl'. Well deserved.

Con:
Javier Bardem plays the big bad of the movie. His hatred for Judi Dench's 'M' is understandable. But having a villain be a former agent and inside source is the back story of the villain for the first 3 Tom Cruise 'Mission Impossible' films, maybe the 4th too but I haven't seen that film. Also is was the back story for 'Goldeneye'. I wish Bardem had played a different person not a former agent. Also he was barely seen in the film. The first hour he wasn't seen once. He definitely had a Heath Ledger/Joker vibe going but since he was introduced about 60 minutes into it we really don't cling onto his character as a villain. Also he dies at the end, this would have been a perfect film to build up his character as a big villain for Bond in future movies...but sadly that will not happen now.

- Also speaking of bad guys, the first 2 Craig films featured a new shadow organization called 'Quantum', which seemed as if they were going to be what 'SPECTRE' was for the Sean Connery Bond. I was hoping they would return since it seemed to me that the first 2 Craig films were building up to a big showdown with Quantum...then nothing. Why couldn't Javier Bardem have been a part of 'Quantum'? He could have been a 'Blofeld' or 'Dr No' type of character for the 21st century...

Over all it was a great film. Hope to see 'Quantum' in the next film...
